DESIGN CONCEPT

The proposed mixed-use complex for EUROPA CENTER development at Carrer de la Vall Moranta, 2 in Sabadell, reflects modern architectural innovation and functionality. This project includes a four-story office building, a six-story hotel, and a single-story restaurant with a roof garden. The design promotes an integrated community atmosphere with an emphasis on green spaces and efficient use of space.

OFFICE BUILDING

The office building, standing at four stories, features a sleek, modern design with expansive glass facades, promoting natural light and providing a visually striking presence. The curvature of the building’s structure not only enhances its aesthetic appeal but also improves aerodynamics and energy efficiency. The floor plan is strategically designed to maximize working spaces with views and natural sunlight. Vertical communications, including stairs and elevators, are positioned on the west façade, while the working spaces are located on the north and east facades. This arrangement takes advantage of the shadowing provided by the hotel building to the south, ensuring optimal thermal comfort.

The strategic placement of working spaces on the north and east facades allows for consistent, diffused daylight, reducing the need for artificial lighting and enhancing the well-being of occupants. By placing vertical communications on the west facade, the design minimizes solar heat gain, contributing to the confort of interior environment. This configuration also facilitates efficient space utilization and accessibility within the building.

Additionally, the office building incorporates solar panels on the roof to generate energy for communal areas, further enhancing its sustainability profile. This renewable energy source reduces the building's reliance on external power supplies and supports the project's commitment to environmental responsibility.

HOTEL

The six-story hotel complements the office building with its similarly modern design, yet offers a distinct visual identity. The hotel’s façade incorporates alternating bands of glass and opaque materials, creating a dynamic appearance. Inside, the layout is designed to maximize guest comfort and operational efficiency, with communal areas that encourage interaction and relaxation. The hotel's elevated height provides panoramic views of the surrounding green spaces and cityscape, enhancing the guest experience. Like the office building, the hotel also incorporates solar panels to generate energy for communal areas, underscoring the project's sustainable approach.

DRIVE-THRU RESTAURANT

The single-story drive-thru restaurant, a fast food free-standing, is equipped with auto service and strategically located at the main entrance of the commercial park. It is designed as a hub of social activity, featuring a roof garden that provides an outdoor dining experience and contributes to the project's green footprint. The roof garden not only offers a unique dining atmosphere but also acts as an insulation layer, reducing the building's energy consumption. The use of native plants and sustainable landscaping practices further supports the ecological goals of the development.

SITE LOCATION

The project is situated in Sabadell, a city known for its rich industrial history and vibrant community life. Carrer de la Vall Moranta, 2 is strategically located to offer easy access to major transportation routes while being nestled within a green setting that promotes tranquility and relaxation. The area is well-serviced by public transport, making it accessible for both employees and visitors.

MASTER PLAN AND OUTDOOR SPACES

The master plan prioritizes green areas at the front of the property, creating an inviting entrance and promoting outdoor activities. These spaces are designed to foster community engagement and provide a serene environment for relaxation. The parking facilities are strategically placed at the rear, ensuring that vehicular traffic does not disrupt the pedestrian-friendly nature of the site. This layout not only enhances accessibility but also encourages the use of outdoor spaces for social gatherings and events.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is a core aspect of the master plan development. The project employs energy-efficient design principles, such as high-performance glazing, natural ventilation, and the use of renewable energy sources. The extensive green areas and the roof garden contribute to biodiversity, reduce urban heat island effects, and improve air quality. The buildings are designed to meet stringent energy performance standards, aiming for certifications that reflect their environmental impact. The overall complex layout takes into consideration the sun path, maximizing large windows on the north facades and using solar protection louvers on other facades to promote shading while maximizing natural sunlight.

The design of the office building specifically supports sustainability through its strategic layout. By maximizing north-facing windows, the building leverages natural light without the excessive heat gain associated with direct sunlight, thereby reducing cooling demands. The positioning of vertical communications on the west façade minimizes exposure to the intense afternoon sun, further aiding in temperature regulation. These elements collectively enhance thermal comfort and energy efficiency, creating a human-centered design that prioritizes occupant well-being and environmental responsibility.

Throughout the year, the building's performance is optimized to adapt to seasonal variations. In the winter, the design minimizes heat loss through efficient insulation and the strategic use of sunlight for passive heating. In the summer, the shading louvers and the insulated building skin enhance a comfortable indoor environment. The incorporation of solar panels further contributes to the complex’s sustainability, providing renewable energy that supports the building’s operations and reduces overall carbon footprint.

The proposed mixed-use complex for EUROPA CENTER Sabadell is a based in contemporary architectural practices, combining aesthetic appeal, functionality, and sustainability. This development is not only designed to enhance the urban fabric of Sabadell but also to set a benchmark for future projects in the region.
